Consumer Sentiment Highlighted in Harris/Decima Poll
A recent nationwide Harris/Decima omnibus survey commissioned by Iristel found that 68% of Canadians surveyed have a cell phone or other mobile device and 72% of these individuals are interested in cutting their roaming and long distance fees.

The survey also found 44% of cell phone owners show interest in  one number (single number reach) for all their phones, while almost half (48%) are interested in being able to transfer a call from their home phone to their cell phone with no call interruption.  In addition, almost a third (30%) of survey respondents indicated that they sometimes interrupt or cut calls short because they have to switch phones or devices.

More than “Single Number Reach”

The survey was conducted by Harris/Decima from May 29-June 1, 2008, through Harris/Decima’s weekly teleVox, the company’s national omnibus survey. A total of 686 Canadian cell phone/mobile device owners were surveyed.  With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate to within ± 3.7 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Algeria Telecom, Algeria’s leading provider of telecommunications services, and Iristel Inc., a leading global provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, today announced an exclusive alliance to offer Algeria Connect, a new VoIP service that provides virtual Algerian phone numbers to Iristel subscribers worldwide. With Algeria Connect, phone calls from Algeria can be made to subscribers regardless of where they are located in the world, using an Algerian phone number and at the cost of a national call(charges vary depending on each carrier).

As part of this exclusive agreement, Algeria Telecom and Iristel will jointly offer Inbound Direct Inward Dialling (DID) services to subscribers around the world who want an Algerian number for their existing phone line. All calls coming through an Algeria Telecom DID switch are routed to Iristel’s gateway that is Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM)-interconnected with the Algeria Telecom switch. Iristel’s gateway then routes calls to the Iristel switch, which then routes calls to Iristel subscribers.
