In order to bridge the gap between PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and IP, there is a growing demand for bringing IP system functionality to traditional PSTN connectivity without the risk and costs associated with a wholesale replacement.

The Iristel Converged Enterprise Telephony solution allows users on PBX and Key Systems to retain their existing digital or analog phones, as well as the features enabled, and remain connected to the PSTN. This enables organizations to realize the benefits of VoIP without having to change user habits.

Improved Price Performance

VoIP equipment from Iristel will enable a company’s PBX system to communicate transparently via an IP network rather than the PSTN. Since the PBX controls the internal distribution of inbound/outbound calls, the handling of internal routing of calls will remain the same. However, calls coming in and leaving the PBX will use VoIP technology versus less flexible and more expensive PSTN technology.

By way of example, a company accustomed to having calls ringing at the reception prior to the receptionist transferring the call to the appropriate work station will continue to follow the same procedures. However, the call will come in via the Iristel gateway, which will hand the call over to the PBX.

These solutions help to reduce PSTN, and long distance costs, because the Branch offices can also connect their PBX to the same network, by using the same method; the inter-office communications will be at no cost, and the long-distance expenditures will decrease significantly.

In the current telephone system, calls are transported on systems referred to as circuit-switched technology. This establishes a “permanent” connection between the caller and the receiver for the duration of the call.

The limitations of this technology are that it requires significant bandwidth for a call and only certain types of calls can be supported (i.e. phone to phone). Additionally, the hardware needed to run circuit-switched networks is expensive.

Voice over IP (VoIP) Private Branch Exchange (PBX) is a service that provides its subscribers with a “virtual” private VoIP network that runs on top of a shared IP network managed by Iristel.

All subscribers that share the same PBX can call each other seamlessly as though they were talking on a totally private network. The VoIP PBX enables decreased cost on international calls, convenience in international calls, and convergence with other applications and services and provides a cost effective and a feature rich alternative to traditional PBXs.

A traditional PBX/telephone system requires an on-site technician to add/remove lines, perform repairs on the voicemail server or re-arrange a telephone groups. Iristel not only eliminates the need for extensive investments in traditional PBX systems, we can also remove the need for regular PBX maintenance fees through hosting your PBX.
